In an effort to provide local disaster relief to regions battling wildfires, FM Global, one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers, has donated US$100,000 to each of three organizations in the United States, Canada and Australia.

Those receiving the donations are the Western Fire Chiefs Association (Western U.S.), the British Columbia Fires Appeal via the Canadian Red Cross and the New South Wales Rural Fire Services Association (Australia).

The company also will double-match its employee donations to each organization through the end of November.

According to FM Global, three main reasons why wildfires losses are increasing and fires are getting larger over the long term are value at risk, forest management challenges and the warming climate. As the climate changes, businesses seeking to cope with wildfire will need to become more climate resilient, the company adds.
